Flex Your Intuition, Breathe into Your Muscles

I’m reading Women Who Run with the Wolves right now, but I guess you could say I’m always reading it. It’s definitely not a library rental or borrow-from-friend book because once you start reading, you’ll dog-ear, underline, make notes in the margins. And, the most fun part is reading a passage that dumbfounds you for a week or more. Some call it (gasp!) the Bible! Well, I concur.

I found the quote under the above photo in a chapter entitled “Intuition as Initiation”. It tells the story of a young woman encountering different aspects of her psyche – the good, the bad and the ugly – kind of a folklore story of Cinderella. The catch is that throughout the story, she has to practice listening to her intuition for survival.

See, we ALL have intuition whether you realize it or not. It’s the practicing that is hard. You know you’re practicing it when you listen, you question, you think you’re being too sensitive, you think you’re thinking too much, etc. But, really, you’ll stop feeling too sensitive, or like you’re thinking too much once you continue practicing listening to your gut. You get better and better at it.

Clarissa Pinkola Estés says that we must practice using our intuitition so we can pass it on to future generations because women teach women to discover it, practice it, embrace it and share it.
